Canadian starting company in the US

Hello!

I have a few questions about Canadians starting companies in the US.

One of my co-founders is American. Based on my understanding, we cannot have a S-Corporation since I am an international. So we'll likely go with a C-corporation.

I read somewhere that I cannot be a salaried employee of the company, but can I be an unpaid CEO? Or is it the case that I cannot be an employee of the company whatsoever?

Under the filing, the roles include: President, Secretary, and Treasurer, along with Board of Directors. Which positions am I allowed to be?
