Changing State Residency's??????

Post by annadog »

Hello. We currently own and live in a condo in Virginia. We are moving out of the USA to central America for a few years. Going to use a property management company to look after our condo (rent it out) We would like to change our Residency to Florida, thus have to pay no State tax while we are away. Is this possible? Thanks, Anna

No, besides your Va condo will always be subject to Va tax, because it is in Va.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Actually we contacted a lawyer and yes we can change our residency to Florida. Will still pay VA property taxes. But we can easily change our residency to Florida, thus not pay VA income tax on salaries.

Lawyers will tell you anything. Residency is a matter of fact, if you do not ever live in FL, which means DL, mail delivery etc, you cannot claim to live there.

Do you really think you are the first to come up with that brillaint idea? Even Having property in Va doesn't make you a Va resident eithr, so what is the worry?

No we are not the first to think of it--we actually know a lot of people that do it! Yes we know about the DL--have the forms already filled out and mail being delivered to a Florida residence. I'm not big on lawyers, but this is from a very reputable law firm. You can close this thread if so desired. thanks
