Is there a requirement that a first-year resident be married to file a full-year 1040? I've read that that's the case on another site.
Also is it forbidden to file a full-year 1040 if I do not meet the SPT?

You can ALWAYS file 1040 as a Cdn.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
