1040NR for UI

Post by mel0526 »

Hi,

I moved back in Canada at the end of 2008. I filled for 2008 a 1040 and Canada and Quebec taxs reports for the 2 weeks I was back.

For 2009, I didn't found a job than I received all year US unemployement insurance and I'm still receiving it with all the extension. I was thinking to fill a 1040NR (only my UI) and complete Canada and Quebec tax reports (UI, interests from my Canada bank, REER). Do it's okay?

Thanks
Melanie

Thats correct. Remember your state as well.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

I began to fill my tax report and I have a few questions:
1. I didn't close my US bank account when I moved back in Canada at the end of 2008 than I received a 1099-INT with around 20$ on it. Do I have to declare it on the 1040NR at line 9a? I will add it to my interest from my CND bank account on my tax reports of Canada and QC...

2. I received also a 20$ with tax withheld from a 401k that I closed in October 2008 before I moved back...do I include it on line 17b? and where I put it on my Canada and QC tax report?

3. I received only UI in 2009 and on the 1040NR the taxable amount is the total of UI with a substract 2400$. On my CND and QC tax report, do it the amount minus 2400$ or the real total that's taxable?

4. I think I don't need 1116 on 1040NR because the tax credit will be on CND and QC tax reports right?

5. On 1040NR page 5: E) I didn't went to US in 2009 than the visa type is not applicable? F) the only change I made was from TN to visitor but I never received the confirmation of the change before I left in 2008 than do it's a change in visa type or not? G) I don't have anything to write. L) Do I have to claim a income tax treaty on interest, REER, 401k interest, UI or something else?

6. Do I have to fill 8891, TD90-22.1?

Thank you :)

You've left it too late for my advice. Sorry. Maybe you can ask in May.
