estate of US citizen in Canada

What forms must be submitted to the IRS for the estate of a US citizen that resided in Canada? All of the estate is in Canada. The value of the estate is about $400,000 so exempt from US estate tax. I believe that income earned on the estate before it is distributed must be reported as income. Do I have to apply for an identification number for the estate and prove to IRS that I am executor? How do I do that?
