Canada province taxes for departure return

Post by Nishant »

To prepare for Canada return for part year resident while my family lived there although I was working full year in US, I called CRA since I didnot receive paper copy. I am confused by CRA rep answer that I need to be filing only Federal return and not province return.

I am pretty sure that I need to be filing Ontario return for part year as a resident of Ontario. I am planning to call again and also run tax CD software to verify the numbers?

Please advise if I will be making mistake by running software as resident of Ontario for part year.
Thanks

As is clearly stated in the emigrnats guide, you file your departure return as a resident of the prvince you left.

Don't bother calling CRA.

And read the emigrnats guide fully.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
