UniversityTuition transfer to non resident

Post by Livonian »

Is it possible to transfer tuition from post graduation studying kid in Canada to Non resident parent on Canada return ?

If yes, is it only for that period while parent was resident or is can be continuted in future years as non resident?

The transfer can only be for the year the income is incurred if memory serves. In the year you move form Canada, you can use deductions incurred anytime during that year.

It's unlikely that the tuition would help you much in a year you were fully non-resident, so you would leave that expense for the child to use in future.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
