How long for CRA to process a departure return

Post by Greg »

I mailed my departure return to CRA on April 20th, it has showed as received on My account for a long time. I called the international tax office 5 weeks ago, the only information they had was it was selected for a manual review. I still to this date have not received any correspondences or calls from them, I called back 4 days ago and they verified that no correspondence has been sent, and they where not sure what the hold up could be, they issued an enquiry on what the delay is.

Is this normal to take this long and not receive anything from CRA?.

Thanks

Should also add my departure return was pretty basic, I sold my primary residence before leaving Canada, I did not file form T1161 as I had nothing to report and nothing even close to the $25,000. I added $10,500 to my income because I owed it back for the home buyers plan.

Typically on a departure return, the processing takes until August.

Nothing to worry about though.

I'm sure the HBP had something to do with it.

I was thinking the HBP was holding it up also, I also figured they could be checking for any property ect. Because I didn't file form T1161 because I had no property to report.

Cheeezzz that took along time to get my notice of assessment, from Canada Revenue, but I finally got it. It said I was denied a clam for a Provincial Tax credit because Deemed residence and Non-Residence cannot take the credit, but does not specify which credit was denied. I looked over the numbers on the Notice of assessment and compared it to my return I sent in all the numbers match, What ever it was made no difference in the final tax.
