TN Visa - nonresident alien living in Canada - how to file t

Post by tn_visa_33 »

Here's my scenario and I've love some advice on how to file US taxes:

- Canadian citizen, living in Canada, married to a Canadian (also living in Canada) with three Canadian children living in Canada
- on a TN Visa working for a US company

I assume I am considered a non-resident alien for tax filing purposes. I realize I have to file in both the US and Canada. I don't know what tax forms to fill out and/or if there are benefits to the following:
- should I get a ITIN for my wife even though neither of us live in the US?
- can I / should I make any deductions on my taxes knowing that I'll just have to make up the difference when I file my Cdn. taxes?
- is there a list of forms I should be filling out?
- are there any tips on how to lower my overall (US and Cdn) tax liability?

Thanks for your help - I am new to the forums and am just starting to do all the reading now.

These Q's have all been answered before. All the best.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
