Changed RRSP Account Number

Post by Kolaivo »

US Citizen in Canada. I've been reporting my RRSP every year. The fund managing company have changed my account number for no apparent reason 1/2 way through the year (acct # previously included my SIN, but now includes my employee number instead.) What do I do now?

- Complete 1 8891 form with a note saying the acct number has changed?
- Complete 2 8891 forms showing $0 balance on one of them? Can I just carry over the non-taxable amount to the 'new' account number, or are they going to force me to treat as fully withdrawn (ie. tax entire gain)

Thanks.

As worst this a transfer and would never trigger tax.

I would simply put the new account number on your 8891 and that is it.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
