RRSP Rev. Proc. 2002-23 Back Declaration without 1040X

Post by rgiustini »

Hello Nelsona,

I have been in the US since 1999.

In 2004, I realized I had not filed any tax deferment forms for my RRSPs for 2000 to 2002 (a deferment statement had been appended to my 1999 tax return). In the same year (2004), I sent a letter to the IRS explaining this and appending the Rev Proc 2002-23 information for the three years 2000-2002. I have never heard back from them.

In reading these threads, I noticed you state that a 1040X should be part of any such submission.

Given the time that has passed, should I resubmit the forms with a 1040X, or just "let sleeping dogs lie"?

Thank you.

You are fine.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
