Worldwide income statement - Canada Tax Return

Post by regina »

Hi, nelson, I am hoping that you can answer this question, because this will be the last one before I submit my canada return or if not, hope someone else can help.

I am not reporting 217 election (it is not to my benefit), do i still need to attach a note to state my and my husband's worldwide income? Is it mandatory? I read from this forum that CRA need a copy of W-2 and 1040, but it is not mentioned in the emigrant guide or CRA website, so do I need to? Thank you.

You need to attach a statement of worldwide incopme only if you are going to claim the full non-refundable credits on your return. If you pro-rate, then such statement is not required. Thius is clearly explained in the emigrants guide.

The need to attach 1040 or w-2 is if you are reporting US income while residnt in canada and claiming US tax as a credit; you are not.
