Independent contractors - Canadian

Post by dhinakaranck »

I am on TN and I am getting some contract job offers.
Since TN is employer specific, I can not take the job. I read the article about Canadian residents providing self employed personal services in the U.S.
How can we do Independent contractor work in USA through Canadian small business?
I do not have a company in Canada. I can register one for this purpose.
How to get Federal Tax Identification Number for a Canadian company?

Thanks :)

This is a visa question.

But, you are quite free to get multiple TNs for multiple 'employers', and these can be 'clients' as well.

You can be paid on a 1099 basis and still get TNs, as long as you get a TN letter saying that the firm is paying and hiring YOU, not some firm or corporation owned by you.

You do not need to register this company in any specific jurisdiction. And how you contruct this firm would depend more on liability issues rather than taxation.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
