You have two options here, you can file a 1040X for 2009 and correct your mistakes.....or you can do nothing. Your return obviously did not flag the IRS computers so your return must be safely tucked away in bed right now....and has been for the last 5 years..why wake it up? I surely would not for 3...

I would say FBAR for sure, and possibly form 8938...you most likely have other accounts besides the RRSP that may push you over the limit for reporting 8938. Directly form the IRS webste; If you are a taxpayer living abroad you must file for 8938 if: You are filing a return other than a joint return...

When asked about thoseindividuals who did not send, or did not have the CLN at the time of filing, the IRS may...and she repeated MA...

That sounds about right...i sent one in for my initial back filing of the FBAR, and I also included one for my backfiled 1040's. In brief, my Accountant outlined my situation, having never lived in the United States and unaware of my filing obligation until recently. He confirmed to the IRS that I d...

The fact that your RRSP has not generated any income, or contains one or mulitple mutual funds is a mute point, the fact that you have an RRSP is the issue and one must file an 8891 every year to identify the account and to either elect deferral of income or identify the distributions. Having said t...

Thanks Nelsona, Yes..they actually did write 'dual status return' at the top of both forms, so basically what you are saying is that the tax dates can run the entire year on both forms...or be tabulated as such? One other question that was responded to this morning by the Accountant in question is t...

Other 1040/NR obstacles
My previous post regarding the Schedule B has been rectified. I received a reply from the Firm and they do agree (finally) that I am correct that it has to be included. Next.... my draft copy of 1040/1040NR has the tax dates(on both forms) of Jan01 to Dec 31 2012. I was under the impression that (fo...

Ok...have come full circle on the schedule B problem. You must complete this part if you (a) had over $1,500 of taxable interest or ordinary dividends; (b) had a foreign account; or (c) received a distribution from, or were a grantor of, or a transferor to, a foreign trust. I have satisfied (b) ther...
