That makes sense. The OP was worried about someone spending "a few months" in the US.
Provincial health coverage can be an issue.
US tax on the gains is also an issue if one is filing US returns and reporting the sale and all that. The vast majority of dual citizens do not, thankfully.

Re: Dual Citizen. Canadian Resident. Work in USA without losing Canadian residency?
And if she spent a year outside of Canada (deemed to be non-resident) then returned and sold the house many years later, what happens? Does she go back and figure out some taxable fraction of the capital gains? The more likely real-world scenario for someone out of the country temporarily (however m...

Re: Dual Citizen. Canadian Resident. Work in USA without losing Canadian residency?
Even if she somehow lost Canadian tax residency by staying out too long, she would not owe capital gains on any increase the value of her house in Canada, correct?

Re: Dual Citizen. Canadian Resident. Work in USA without losing Canadian residency?
If she returns to live in it again before selling it then I can't see primary residence being an issue. You are probably overthinking this.

Re: Dual Citizen. Canadian Resident. Work in USA without losing Canadian residency?
Furthermore, popping down to the US for a few months to work temporarily does not make one non-resident as far as Canadian taxes are concerned.

Capital gains on your primary residence are not taxable in Canada, so no worries there.

Re: Canadian taxes on US stimulus benefit?
Thanks, had forgotten that.
Seeing some very amusing reports of people suddenly receiving stimulus cheques despite having renounced circa 2014 and never filed since.

Canadian taxes on US stimulus benefit?
This seems to be generating confusion among dual citizens in Canada who've receive the $1200 US stimulus benefit. It's a tax credit as far as the US is concerned, but is it taxable income as far as CRA is concerned? I would assume not but Google yields no definitive answer. I would also assume it sh...

Re: Canadians with SSN filing for stimulus check.
Multiple reports now on various expat forums of non-resident US citizens (who have an SSN) using the simple "non-filer" form to receive their stimulus benefits paid directly into Transferwise US dollar accounts. So apparently that does work, even if they've never filed US tax returns in th...

Re: US government stimulus check
Actually no. My point is simply that not every amount of money received is somehow automatically considered taxable income. It's a bit of a stretch to call one country's tax credit another country's taxable income. Though the argument is completely moot since, as you said, there's no paper trail.

Re: US government stimulus check
To wit, reports emerging of former foreign students who left the US - so neither citizens nor residents - discovering $1200 in the bank accounts they left behind, presumably due to having filed 2018 returns. What a pleasant surprise. Well done, US government!

Re: US government stimulus check
An entirely predictable ****** with no actual thought given to non-resident US taxpayers, in other words. Some will get money by direct deposit (or already have); some may receive a check in the mail months down the road; others will get nothing.

Re: US government stimulus check
I'm definitely seeing reports of expats receiving the money this week, but obviously those with direct deposit to a US account already set up.
