Unfortunately, the GA DMV person. while nice -- is wrong. SSA has categorically stated that they will not give SSN for DL for ANY state. My advice on state issues is the following: Unless you hear otherwise, the treatment is no different. Don't ask your state about it. Don't ask your accountant to ask the state about it. Asking your state about it will only raise the issue to them, as it did in California, with much headaches for RRS...

The rev PROC which Mark refers to is actually Rev. NOTICE 2003-25 and has been supeceded by Rev. Notice 2003-75. Mark's link abour Form 3520 is OLD NEWS and not applicable for 2003 or furure tax years. This applied ONLY to the 2002 tax year, as Form 8891 will be implemented for the 2004 tax year. <i...

Again, even if you die, whether the money is in RRSP or IRA matters little, except that your IRA *might* result in some small estate tax in US depending on who your beneficiary is.
