Unfortunately it requires Cdn residency, since a Cdn broker cannot transact for a US resident, so it will not work. Actually, it appears that TD Waterhouse in the US allows Canadian dollar accounts. See this post at the FWR forum, e.g., where Oliver indicates that he uses TDWHUSA to buy and sell Ca...

It would be interesting to know if there were case law on this fine point. The Code makes this exception from the 10% penalty for 401(k) plans: 72(t)(2)(A)(v) made to an employee after separation from service after attainment of age 55, Without punctuation, that is an ambiguous clause, readable eith...

Issues with new forum

Congratulations on setting the forums on reasonably cheap and stable software.

It seems to me that many recent posts have disappeared. December 2005 looks remarkably thin. Can you confirm?

Nelson, the text of the CRA bulletin always uses the term "social security" in lower case, i.e. it's a general term, not a legal definition. What Americans refer to as "Social Security" can mean the retirement plan for seniors, the medical plan for seniors, or indeed both. The te...

You're asking in an inappropriate place because this forum is for discussion of Canada / US cross-border tax issues. Let me just point you to two IRS urls which should make it clear that the US government really frowns on this sort of thing by its citizens. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/articl...

Before going any further, you need to clarify exactly what you mean by "$600K in profits" for the ISO. If you have not exercised yet, then it's probably better to exercise while you're still in the US, just to avoid the complication of taxation in both countries. If you have exercised and ...
