CPA recommendation for U.S/Canada tax

Hello, Please can someone recommend a CPA to help out with my taxes this year? I have handled my taxes since 2016, always file resident in Canada and 1040NR in the U.S. All the help has come from this forum (thank you guys, you are da best!) But last year, I moved out of Canada and will be filling a...

Re: Moved to the USA without liquidating TFSAs

Any luck on this, I recently heard too that better to close TFSA and am in same boat as you. Already moved and didn't close TFSA, good thing though I only have less than 2k in the account. I hope to close it but how about RSP, RESP as well. Banks in Canada told me I can leave all as long as I don't ...

Re: Help Tax Planning on becoming a non-resident with Complications

Thanks Nelsona for good job here, i understand this more clearly now after reading couple of info here. Seems it doesnt matter, as long as your departure date in Canada aligns with when you stop reporting income generated from your US income. I see a number of people here say call CRA (and you said ...

Re: Canadian Departure Tax

One other question please. 1040 should be filed in the US, agreed and probably better for the arrival year. How about in Canada? Would one be considered a resident if departure is Sep since this is more than 183 days? Or one should file resident from Jan - Sep , and Sep to Dec as non-resident, not r...

Re: Canadian Departure Tax

@Nelsona, you mentioned one is not a non resident the year of departure? Sorry am a little confused here, so if I depart in Sep for example and based on what you said that one is not a non resident for the year. With rental income between Sep and end of the year, should i be paying non resident tax ...

Re: 2018 Child Tax Credit - SSN Requirement

@ers1254 , You will not be able to claim Line 49- Child tax credit as your kiddos need to be a U.S. Citizen or resident (if they live with you in the U.S then you are ok with this clause) but in order for you to claim child tax credit, you must be a U.S Citizen or a resident of Canada (and it doesn'...

Re: Child Tax Credit and World Income Reporting

@Papillary, I do not believe you can claim any of these i.e. 49- Credit for child and dependent, 64- Additional child tax credit, as well as 47- Credit for child and dependent care expenses, except someone has claimed it before on the forum and can advise but based on the instruction i read, I do no...

Re: Child Tax Credit and World Income Reporting

I just got passed the Proforma 1040 and Line 42 on 1040NR, there isn't much different for me as the income on proforma 1040 is high as well (combine income), difference is around $1,000 with XXV(3) rate better. So will probably use the proforma rate. Yet, am still not able to use all my SS, Medicare...

Hello, Can someone please help me here, I am completing a 1040 proforma, only one income on W2 and the second is T4, Nelsona mentioned that you fill 1040 as if all income are from the U.S., I converted income on T4 to U.S. and input on W2 for my spouse but having error on software with direct conver...
