1040NR AMT question

I filed a 1040NR and a 1040 PRO FORMA declaring a treaty position. The IRS responded with a request for form 6251 alternative min tax calculation. They do not make it clear whether its for the 1040NR or the 1040 PRO FORMA. How should I handle this?

Maybe I'm not understanding. The rate I pay at the bank is not the same as the bank of canada. For instance at the moment the market rate is 1.12 but at TD bank I'd get 1.091.

Commuter exchange rate

nelsona, in another thread you stated: If you have proof of what you "paid" for your various currency exchanges, you are free to use these. But you can't simply juice your figures by 2% in either direction. I receive a US$ paycheck weekly and convert to Canadian. Am I understanding correct...

1040:
Income (same as AGI): 113893
Taxable income: 76469
Tax: 9176 (12%)

1040NR:
Income (same as AGI): 105334
Taxable income: 78316
Tax using 12% rate from pro-forma: 9397.92

This is the correct way I assume.

My income on the 1040 is higher than the 1040NR since it includes my wifes canadian income and the 1040NR does not.

My TAXABLE income is higher on the 1040NR cause of fewer deductions

Thank you for the reply nelsona.

Do you think they would have an issue with a 1040NR calculated the way spocket did it?

When claiming a treaty position (non-discrimination Article XXV). I'm basing this off another post I found: >>>Also, spocket, if you don't mind, did you use calc. the effective rate using your taxable income (after deductions and exemptions)? For the "effective rate", I did not use the &qu...

When completing a 1040NR and using a pro forma 1040 to calculate your effective tax rate (total tax / adjusted gross income), on the 1040NR do you use this effective tax rate adjusted gross income (line 36) or taxable income (line 41). If its adjusted gross income is there any point to claiming any ...
