Re: deemed non-resident, officially departing

It's not the US... it's Germany (sorry I'm just now realizing this is a "US" forum" ... ). And yes, I did a complete return there, on my world income. But since taxes are higher in Germany, all I had to pay in Canada was the CPP etc. My accountant had urged me to sever ties officially...

Re: deemed non-resident, officially departing

My "event" will be the fact that I will be in Canada for two months to take care of business and wrap things up, among other things.

The reason I think I would qualify as a deemed non-resident is that I filed a return in that other country and got a foreign tax credit from the CRA.

Re: emigrate vs filing canadian tax/us tax? pros/cons?

I know this is an older thread, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the exact same issue.
Question: If he should not have filed that income tax return, why does the CRA even have such a thing as a tax treaty and tax credits anyway? For whom or what scenario?

deemed non-resident, officially departing

I've been officially established in another country since Jan 2017 (with intention to return to Canada!) and filed an income tax return in both countries for 2017, and received a tax credit from Canada. I am now deciding to depart Canada permanently, and will do so in Sep 2018. But if I declare that...

What happens to your line of credit when you become a non-resident?

What happens with my credit ratings and line of credit if I tell my Canadian banks that my primary address is in Europe and that I am becoming a non-resident? ... And, if they're inclined to lower or eliminate your line of credit, what will they do with money already owed on a line of credit or cred...

Canadian bank account, address

Hello, I moved out of Canada over a year ago, but have maintained ties in Canada. Among others, I have property there, with a mailing address. Nonetheless, at this point my primary residence is no longer in Canada (for tax purposes). I still use my Canadian bank account, and need it actually. I real...
