Right, but what if the employer is a startup or a smaller/mid size company with ZERO presence in Canada? Its tough to get them to agree to pay through some third party - they'd rather find another employee who is a US citizen instead. So just wanted to understand the specifics of how I could do this..

Okay, so in summary: 1) File a normal Canadian return. I was a student until August 2015 - so only thing on the Canadian side would be $0 income and claim on my tuition fees.
