Re: Canadian moved to US without Family

Ok that is starting to make more sense. Now to expand on your answers: - I visit frequently but I would be spending much more time in the US (roughly 75% in US and 25% in Canada). So I guess I am still deemed a resident of Canada in that case? - With that in mind, any income that I pay myself from t...

Canadian moved to US without Family

Hi, I have researched the forum and learned much but I think my case is a bit unique. - I moved to the US in February and I created a C-corp in USA. I am getting paid in the US on that C-corp. I do not get paid personally. - Belongings in Canada: House and rental unit, vehicle, RRSP, TFSA. - Spouse ...

Re: TN Visa working in US on 1099

OK. That makes sense.

Would it be wise if I open an LLC for the US corp?

Re: TN Visa working in US on 1099

Hi Nelsona, Thanks a lot for your quick reply. So is there a reason why I would not just open the US corp from now and divert all my earnings to it? Once my family moves to the US, I plan on filing the departure date (sever ties) like you suggested. Now what happens to my residential house and renta...

TN Visa working in US on 1099

Hi, I have researched this form quite a bit and learned a lot but still am confused about a couple of issues. Here's my situation: - Own the corporation out of Alberta, Canada - The business gets paid from the US company. I do not get paid personally. - Work in the US under a TN Visa - Would be exce...

OK this is starting to make some more sense now. So int he interest of complicating things (sorry), I should mention the following: - Any income earned up until end of June was from a Canadian corp to my Canadian corp. Work during that period was performed partly in Canada and partly in US - Any inc...

Hi Nelsona,

Thank you so much for the detailed reply.

My Canadian business gets paid from the US company in USD. They do not pay me personally.

Would the 1040NR form still apply for me in that case?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Residency Inquiry + Taxes

Hi, I have researched this form quite a bit and learned a lot but still am confused about a couple of issues. Here's my situation: - Own the corporation out of Alberta, Canada - Work in the US under a TN Visa - Would be exceeding the 183 days substantial presence test in the US - Belongings in Alber...
