The income is from Canada (I went there for the work). But other than that I don't do any other work there. Is it not legal to do freelance work in Canada while being a US resident? I am on TD visa in US. Also, should I mention unemployed as occupation in form 1040? Thanks.

Hi, I saw a post somewhat relevant to my question but not exactly answering it. I wonder how freelance income from Canadian source has to be reported in US. I have about $3k income in Canada (as nonresident) and I need to report it in US as resident. The tricky part is that I do not have work permit...
