Dormant Consulting Company and Form 5471
I have a dormant Canadian Personal Service Company (didn't get any consulting contracts last year). No income, expenses and no related bank accounts. Do I still need to file a Form 5471?

Does Wife Need to File US Tax Returns?
I'm a dual citizen filing MFS so I can claim the most of the house sales capital gains exemption.
My NRA spouse now has a TIN so I can go ahead and file MFS - but does she actually have to go file a US Return - even with no US income or presence?

Gift of Real Property to NRA Spouse
Sold primary residence in 2015 and am over the $250K allowance threshold. I understand that as a USC I can 'give' my NRA spouse $160K (for 2015) in cash - however can I give her the same amount in real property - that being $160K of my financial interest in our residence? The thought being that this...

How do I know if a TFSA is a "Trust"?
As a Dual US/CDN citizen I've always operated under the assumption that all TFSA's are "Trusts" as far as IRS was concerned -and not wanting to deal with 3520 reporting have avoided using one. Now I read that if a TFSA is not a 'trust' then at least for US tax purposes it would be treated ...

US Tax Implication of Owning Your Own Company in Canada
I'm a dual US/Can citizen who was recently offered a contract position with a local Canadian company. For contractors who are not employees of an agency they ask that you set up a numbered Canadian company and they then treat that company as a supplier and just pay a monthly invoice. The Canadian si...

Sorry to hear about your father. We all get older every day... Regarding your citizenship though - although you may have been born outside the USA (I'm assuming) and did not already renounce your US citizenship (again, I'm assuming) you very well may be a US citizen. If your father spent more then j...

In this case I'm estimating the capital gain from the home sale to come in just under $500K USD - but well over $250K. I've never claimed any mortgage or other housing deductions on my US returns. I've always just filed as HOH and as my income has always been under the FEIE limits everything zeroed ...

Sale of Canadian Home and US Capital Gains
I'm a dual Cdn/US and my wife is Canadian only (NRA for US tax purposes). We're selling our home in Canada and moving to another Canadian home and I'm well over the $250K capital gain (it's taken almost 20 years) but under the $500K capital gain for joint US filers. Is there anyway I can claim the c...
