I am assuming that they don't know. If it is against SEC regulations then they would like close the account rather than accept the W8BEN.

Received 1099 DIV - Do I have a US filing requirement?

hello, I opened up a motif trading account in the US and I received a 1099DIV for $17 this year. They did not withhold any taxes.

Do I have a US filing requirement? Since the value is so small, does the IRS follow up and chase these type of issues?

thanks.

If you pay state taxes to California (not federal taxes), are the taxes paid eligible for a foreign Canadian tax credit?

I have read that there is no tax treaty between Canada CRA and California but does that matter?

Thank you for your response. I have two clarification questions. 1) What is the test to determine whether the US Corp is present in Canada? They have no permanent establishment but they would have 1-2 employees up here for less than maybe 80 days each. However the onsite canadian contractors would b...

Canadian contract for US company

I am a canadian citizen who has been working as an independent contractor for a US startup for a few years. We have a potentially large contract that would last a year however it is in Canada. So I am wondering which structure below would be most advantageous to reduce total taxes paid: a) USA Corp ...
