Tax Question on 2555 or 1116
I am a Canadian citizen and after spending 9 years in the U.S., I was transferred back to Canada in June 2006. I am or was a green card holder. I am currently working on completing my U.S. tax return for 2007 and have a question. I am married filing joint with 2 children. I had no U.S. wages for 200...

Question on Terminating a Green Card
I am a Canadian citizen and after spending 9 years in the U.S., I was transferred back to Canada in June 2006. I am or was a green card holder. My question is, do I 'have' to officially terminate my Green card by filing the I-407 and 8854 forms with the U.S. Consulate? The reason I'm asking is becau...

Transfer 401K to an IRA
I worked in the US for 10 years but returned to Canada last year. When I left the US last year I left behind (with Vanguard) an IRA and a 401K. I just received a letter from Vanguard stating that as of Dec 07 they will no longer receive contributions from Canadian residents. Dividends and capital ga...

Thanks Nelson. I did just that. Under Other Income there was a line for Wages not already reported. There it said to enter wages not reported on a W-2. Example - Foreign Wages. It worked great. One last question - I entered my exclusion using the FEIE 2555 and it still gave me my child tax credit of...

Foreign Income Where To Report
This might seem like a crazy question, but I can't find where to enter my foreign income on form 1040. I moved to Canada in June 2006 and am just now completing my U.S. 1040 form. Turbo Tax allows me to enter my exclusion on form 2555, but I can't seem to find where to enter the actual foreign incom...

Thanks again. I have a relative with a U.S. address that I was thinking of using but I'll go ahead and enter my Canadian address. Any tips on retaining my GC. I would hate to lose it. I still have U.S. bank accounts, credit cards, drivers license, investments. Would it help if I bought property? And...

Tax Questions on Move Back to Canada
I have a few questions and I apologize in advance if these have been covered in other forums. I hope it’s not too long to read but I didn’t want to leave anything out. I am a Canadian citizen and after spending 9 years in the U.S., I was transferred back to Canada in June 2006. I am or was a gre...

Thanks for all the info. After reading the posts I think I'm going to try to retain my GC. In your opinion - if I keep my U.S. bank account, keep my U.S. credit cards, have a registered IRA and visit the U.S. several times a year - would that be enough to have the necessary ties to be considered leg...

Moving Back To Canada
I am a green card holder currently living in the U.S. but we plan on moving back to Canada in the near future. The plan is to reside in Canada but to keep working with the same U.S. company except now as a contractor. Not on their payroll as an employee but more like myself been self-employed. I hav...

I read here that income earned in an IRA is not taxable in Canada until I start withdrawing it. Once I make a withdrawel it's 100% taxable in both the US and Canada (assuming I'm a Canadian resident at the time). My question is if I pay US taxes on the withdrawel, can I use that as a foriegn tax cre...

Moving Back To Canada
We are moving back to Canada after spending 9 years working and residing in the U.S. I do have my green card. Two quick questions and I apoligize if these have been asked before: 1) When we sell our house in the U.S., will there be any capital gains tax due? We have lived in it as our primary reside...
