I started work on January 3rd or something, but I actually got my visa and crossed into the US in mid December.

Since I already did my 2011 taxes, would it be more correct to file an amended return for 2011 or when I file for 2012, just claim my first day of work as my departure date?

Oh forgot to mention, I am a Canadian citizen and permanent resident.

I searched around the forums, but didn't find anything particularly applicable to my situation.
