Thanks
Still can't quite shake the feeling that there is still paperwork to file. Probably a Pavlovian response after so many years of filing endless documents.

3520 filing requirements post 8854 filing
Back in mid-2013, I filed my 8854 and assorted other returns to the IRS. My concern is that I still hold an TFSA and an RESP account. Do I still need to file my 3520/A for these accounts, even after filing my 8854? I would hate to run afoul of the IRS in this regard, after doing all the hard work of...

Not quite finalized...
Good news and no news on my front. Good news: I received two letters dated Nov 6/12 with an apology and it notes that 1 of my 5 late returns resulted in no penalty assessed. No news: I have not heard back on the other 4... DETAILS: Late last week (early Dec), I received two letters stating that ther...

CdnAm - first - thanks for all your details regarding the additional penalty letters. Your postings have helped immensely as I try to make sense of what is going with the IRS at times. Regarding penalty letters, one IRS agent told me that they're printed and processed well in advance of the date ind...

Still keeping fingers crossed
Well, wonder of wonders, I spoke to the first non-zombie IRS agent this morning. She looked into my accounts, and says she removed the penalty, as well as put a note on my account that there are to be no civil penalties placed on the account for the prior tax years. I was shocked, to say the least. ...

 Primo - I thought it would be more confusing to send separate envelopes. Thanks for the tip, and on putting it altogether in 1 express envelope too. Hoping to send the fax today and call back. She says I can leave a message and she'll personally call me back. That's the very first time anyone...

Not an error letter
Primo- thanks for your post. My conversation of an hour ago is below. 8.30AM THIS MORNING I called the IRS business division and finally spoke with someone who was helpful. Although the news wasn't great. It turns out the penalty letter exists because I am being charged a penalty on my account, for ...

CdnAm - thanks for taking the time to reply. After reading your response, I'm comfortable waiting until tomorrow and speaking with someone at 8am. I have already called twice today at 3pm, and the first person put a referral on my account, the second person said to call the business office. I then s...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. At least reading Zad and CdnAm's postings give me hope and an idea on how to proceed on my case. MAY I received letters in late May indicating a penalty for filing my 3520As late unless an explanation was forwarded. JUNE I sent my explanation letter in mid-June ...

Include phone number on letters to IRS?
I have read internet postings recommending that phone numbers be omitted from tax returns or written correspondence with the IRS. However, I still have yet to hear of the IRS calling people. The internet postings that I read suggested not to include phone numbers because the IRS had previously calle...

A thought
Anyone seen this: http://voices.yahoo.com/how-negotiate-penalties-irs-1355993.html Also, anyone receive a phone call from the IRS on this? In the letters that I received, they request a phone number. However, I have yet to hear of anyone receiving an actual call from the IRS to discuss their 3520/A ...

In the same boat
Am very interested to hear what other people's experiences are on this. Have also received the 'penalty proposed' letter but without any specific agent to call. Having already gone through a nonsensical IRS call center conversation on another matter, I will just try to parse out a letter to send in....
