Form 8854
Hello, Please see my previous post for some background: http://forums.serbinski.com/viewtopic.php?t=6471 I was just wondering if I also need to complete a form 8854 since I surrendered my green card in July 2011, and my wife surrendered hers in January 2012. Should I send these in with our 2011 tax ...

Thanks again for the very fast replies nelson and JG. Just wanted to be explicit to make sure I don't do anything wrong -- So I can claim the foreign tax credit (form 1116) for any wages over and above my foreign income exclusion limit. Is my understanding correct on this? I will look into the alter...

Thanks again JGCA. However, I'm not sure I understand. In form 2555-EZ on line 14, they ask me to enter the number of days in my qualifying period that fall within 2011 (For me, my qualifying period begins April 17, 2011 and goes to Mar. 30, 2012). I guess for whatever is no...

Form 1116
I was living in the US from 2002 to April of 2011. I held a green card until July of 2011. I am working on completing my US tax return and I am filling out form 1116 to claim the foreign tax credit. All my canadian income is wages/salary so it falls in the general category. I also have US wages as w...

Filing taxes after returning to Canada from US
Hi Guys, Thanks for all the advice I've been reading, very informative. Here is my situation: I moved to the US from Canada in 2002 and obtained a green card while I was living and working in the US. I moved back to Canada in April of 2011. In July of 2011 I surrendered my green card to Homeland Sec...
