How to contact IRS after their letter indicating 3520 error?
Hello! I am a US citizen living in Canada. After learning of the need to submit the 3520, I sent in 3520 & 3520A forms in August for the past 5 years. This was a grand total of 17 forms each, for various accounts. Last week I received a bundle of 14 letters from the IRS, stating that I needed to ...

I have filedmy 1040 returns on a timely basis, and have not had US tax owing for several years. With the 3520 ...

Hi imcdn, I had likewise learned abaout FBARs late. What i've seen on this board is that the general recommendatio is to backfile the FBAR (ideally 6 years), add a letter stating that you didn't know about the FBAR requirement, and then hope that you don't hear back from them. I haven't seen anyone ...

Hi coffeepucks - I attached a letter to mine (similar situation; needed to backfile several years of FBAR's). My understanding is that it's reasonable to simply state that you did not know the regulation (if that's true, of course). I read that while searching for help - don't know where I saw it ...
