Help understanding how to make a US contract work? 1099

Hi, I am a dual US-CDN citizen residing in Ontario. I recently left a full time role and starting to do some part time consulting. I've been offered a contract by a US company that will require some onsite work at a US location as well as remote work from Ontario. My plan was to create a corporate e...

Recommendation for broker that is licensed in Ontario and US

Thank you for this forum, it has been a great source of advice. I am a dual US/CDN citizen currently living in Canada. I have lived and worked on both sides of the border and have always kept on top of the Tax filing requirements. During my last employment stint in the US, I opened 529 and UTMA acco...

Thanks. I've been considering a strategy of holding all my investments in Canada reside inside my RSP and having all of my non-RSP investments held at a US brokerage, like Fidelity. My accountant says this should work (there are CRA extra forms if the cost of the non-CDN investments is > $100K aggre...

Fidelity has been great for me too. I left an IRA there and there has been no issue trading (self-directed).

What is your provincial issue that restricts trading in the US as mentioned in the first post of this thread?

3520, 8861, FBAR reporting question.

I haven't seen this scenario addressed, apologies if I missed it in searching. I am dual US/Cdn citizen working and resident in Canada. My company offers a savings plan which matches 50% of my contribution with company stock. The plan allows the employee contribution to be split between RSP and afte...

3250 Question - Canada

Is there a good list of what the US considers a foreign trust needing a 3250 / 3250A? From what I think I've read both on this forum, the irs site and various blogs, I get the following: Need 3250/3250A -TFSA -RESP -Brokerage accounts with CDN mutual funds -Whole life policies (unsure about this one...

Hapless, Thank you this is great information!

I also have a RBC TFSA...but when I called their call centre to get the EIN, the agent had no idea how to answer or even who to send me to.

Any suggestions?

FBAR for Canadian Corporation?

I am a dual US/CDN citizen living in Canada and in 2010 had a Canadian Corporation that I used for consulting business. All business was in Canada with no US revenue or income. I have always filed and am up to date for my personal TD 90 FBAR reports. Does the corporation need to file a separate FBAR...
