Maybe not in the same way, but we do file jointly. For example, because of my income she claims our children as her dependants but I would claim the child care benefit on my taxes. Now, she will claim my disability amount since I'm not earning any money. However I think you are right, I guess the sy...

She files her Canadian taxes jointly with me, however when I file my US taxes I do not include her in any way. So as long as I never file jointly with her on my 1040 (which there would be no point for me to do anyway) as long as a joint account we have together has not exceeded $10k, there is nothin...

FBAR question for Joint/Separate accounts

I'll try to make this short. I am American living in Canada. My wife is Canadian living in Canada. My wife and I have a joint account that handles everyday expenses. At no point has this account shown a balance of $10,000+ from my knowledge. I cannot get statements prior to 2008 and I think it may h...

hahah. Thanks. I figure if they want to stimulate me, they can. If not, then I'll deal with being... un-stimulated? Now that I've got this done, it's a dream. The biggest issue was trying to figure out how to enter everything (the fake W2 and then entering info into the 1116 form) but I think I'm in...

I entered nothing into my W2 other than the income I made. I then noted my Child Care benefit as other income. I did not note that I paid any tax at this point. I then filled out form 1116 where I entered that information again. I noted down how much I paid in foreign taxes. Then it tells me that I ...

I do apologize. The problem is that each time I pose a question, something else gets changed. This has just been a very long process for me and each step I take gets me closer and further away. As it stands, it seems that I do have to claim the Universal Child Care Benefit (which IS taxable) as othe...

ARGH. The RC62 IS taxable in Canada, so I assume that means it's taxable in the US. The question is how do I deal with that then, where do I enter that information?

Okay, so finished my 2008 and didn't get hit with the AMT. Then did the same for the 2009 taxes and was charged the AMT. I don't get this.

Oh I just saw a response you made in 2007 stating that the RC62 was not required to be entered in the 1040, so I'll just omit that amount and be done with it. Good, that's easy then.

I guess I'm one of the few people that has no money ;) At no time that I can remember did I have over 10k combined in any accounts. now 10k in DEBT that's another story, but never did I have a positive balance, even combined, of 10k. I just finished 2008 and the AMT was not noted, or charged, and it...

Sorry - one other thing that I didn't realize, because my income was lower than that of my wife, our Universal Child Care Benefit Statement was claimed to me, increasing my income by 2,400 for the year. Can i just include that in my full income? I assume I can, since it WAS income, but I'm just putt...

I don't need to do FBAR if I don't have any accounts over 10k, right?
