Yeesh... this keeps getting more complicated. I am using TurboTax and I thought (hoped?) that it would just generate all necessary forms. At some point it does ask if I'm a citizen of a country with which the US has a tax treaty...so of course I'd say yes to that. But some of the questions throw me ...

I am almost certain that I CAN file a full 1040, because I meet the SPT for 2010. If not, I've misunderstood much of what I've read on this forum. I did not read anywhere that I must be a US resident for the entire duration of the 330 days for PPT. If that's the case then no, I can't file 2555. Mayb...

2555 vs 1116

1040 full vs. dual
I've gone back and read the posts starting from Dec, 2010, and I've had lots of my questions answered. nelsona, I must say you are saint for dealing with all our questions. I have two more lingering questions that I couldn't find answers for, after which I think I'll be good to go. 1. I'm filing a d...

...definately a non-resident of Canada. Even if my bank account was considered a significant resident tie, I'd be deemed a non-resident by Article IV of the Canada-US Tax Treaty. But, if I understand correctly, the rules are the same? What are the implications of filing as deemed non-res vs. non-res...

Borderline residency
First, I would like to thank you for providing this wonderful resource - it's been very helpful and I've learned a lot from reading others' posts. My question is about preferred filing options: I qualify for non-residency status for Canada, and I am a US resident for tax purposes since I passed the ...
