I'm a Cdn, living down in the USA (green card holder) and I belive the normal time frame 1 can depart the USA is 1 yr, but there is a waiver on ecan get to extend that, but I may be mistaken. Best of luck

Yes, there are different types of USA visa's but if your doing one via marriage (not work) (cr-1 -married under 2 yrs, or IR-1 married over 2 yrs) will take longer than just a few weeks!!
