Section 217 for Spousal RRSP withdrawal?

I'm a Canadian citizen residing in the US on a TN, and my spouse has no income. I contributed to her Spousal RRSP in 2014 while we were both Canadian residents and we moved to the US in 2015. Is she now able to withdraw from that SRRSP as a non-resident and file a section 217 return to offset the 25...

Thanks nelsona,

I was also a U.S. resident for just over half of 2012 and filed as a full-year resident for 2012, I saw in another thread you recommended the person file a 1040NR with 0 owing just to make the IRS aware that they're no longer a resident. Would you recommend that in my case as well?

Taxes when working remotely as contractor for US employer

I work from Canada for a US employer as a contractor, but occasionally visit (2-3 days per month, well under 183 days per year) their US offices. I have a TN Visa for this employer, mostly to avoid potential border-crossing problems. I am paid via wire into a Canadian account with no US or Canadian ...

For those filling out 3520-A for a TFSA, what are you putting under 2a-e, it says to attach "all" documents but my TFSAs never issued any such documents. Anyone in the same situation?

Is there a requirement that a first-year resident be married to file a full-year 1040? I've read that that's the case on another site.
Also is it forbidden to file a full-year 1040 if I do not meet the SPT?

Found some other text on the CRA website that seems to support this, does anyone know if there's a specific form/schedule/worksheet to help calculate this?

Departure return: prorated tax credits?

I recent made my first attempt at filling out my departure T1 by hand, I noticed I made a few errors so was starting over, and took a look into doing it using U-File's software. When I entered in my information about being an emigrant it talks about prorating my tax deductions if over 90% of my reve...

Emmigrant T1 schedule `, do I pay non-resident surtax

I'm filing my departure return and am calculating my total tax with schedule A. I was a resident of BC until May 2010 and am now a resident of WA. Do I need to take the 48% non-resident surtax, or do I just file the entire return as though I was a resident of BC the entire year (but without reportin...

In order to file full year 1040 do I need to meet the substantial presence test? Or is it sufficient to be residing/working in the US in the latter part of the year (which makes me a resident alien under the treaty as I understand it and requires me to at least file a dual-status 1040).

To clarify, by filing a full-year 1040, does that mean not putting dual-status alien at the top of the return, and reporting my full year world income on the US return? Would that entitle me to the standard deduction that dual-status returns don't get? Then should I file my Canadian return as an emm...

Moved to US in May on TN, do I file in CAN as non-resident?

Hi, I was overwhelmed by the search results and couldn't find my exact situation, sorry if this has been answered already. I moved down to WA from BC in May of 2010 to work on a TN visa, I had a fulltime job in Canada and bank account interest so I have Canadian income for 2010, but most of my incom...
