Fees for preparing US tax return?

Hi folks,

Anyone willing to share how much they pay in fees to have their (uncomplicated) US tax prepared by a Canadian tax firm?

Thanks.

I am in a similar boat to chrissy1013, except that I moved back to Canada on July 3rd. (And was also present in Canada for a total of approx 2-3 weeks prior to July 3rd.) Does this change any of the advice given to chrissy1013 regarding US tax filing? Do I file for the full year? Include/exclude Can...

Filing of personal tax returns for KIDS?

My husband and I are Canadian citizens. We lived in the US for a couple of years and our kids were born there, and are therefore dual Canadian-US citizens. We now live in Canada. Here's the question: at what point do our kids have to start filing US tax returns? At this stage they are very young (3 ...
Just one more thing that I didn't pick up one. Since you are not amrried, you are filing single tax returns, so you may have to change my numbers a bit, and each do a split. My example was for a married couple.
Yes, we've been filing single returns. (And yes, I did...

RRSPs - Collapse in 2010, or split between 2010/2011?

We want to collapse our RRSPs, but are unsure if it makes sense to take them out all at once, or split the withdrawal between 2010 and 2011. Some background: We are Canadian citizens, US residents on work visas. We are domestic partners, but not legally married. We have two young children together (...

Fair enough.

I'm just concerned about saying the wrong thing, or saying too little or too much.

If anyone has any personal experience, I would appreciate hearing your story. In the meantime, I'm getting all my docs together....

Thanks for your help nelsona.

OK, not good. So I've searched the forum here, and did some googling (including IRS website), and now I'm all nervous. But I guess that's irrelevant. I see that on other posts, you have advised to those who missed the FBAR requirement to just file now. Is that right? Should I be terribly concerned a...

Just a side note.... we actually did meet with a tax accountant about a month ago about a couple of issues, including the question about withdrawing our RRSPs. He did not mention anything about 8891. You'd think he would have brought it up. (He's a former Canadian tax guy, who has been in the US for...

Have not heard of FBAR either. Quick google search reveals that I think (by luck, and clearly not knowledgable decision) we're ok on this front. We closed down all of our accounts when we moved to the US, with the exception of one. The one open bank account has never had a balanace of more than a fe...

Thanks for the quick reply. Now, when you say they are subject to penalty -- does that mean we may be penalized, or we will be penalized? And how is the penalty amount determined? We are both employed, so the 25% flat tax withholding on the Canadian end is attractive. Is there any benefit on the US ...

Backfiling Form 8891

I just found this forum, and have found it extremely helpful - thank you! Now, my first question... We are Canadian citizens residing and working in the US. We moved to the US on Jan 1, 2007. We have filed US taxes since our arrival (i.e., 2007, 2008, 2009) and not filed in Canada. We are interested...
