re: nobody files 1040-C. Thanks, but how can I validate that?

Does anyone know what the 2063 form is for? I'm just guessing but it seems like an acknowledgment by the IRS that you've reported with them upon departure, and can be 'trusted' to file the normal 1040.

ps. To be fair, re: fees, X is quite small (eg 1.5 %). It is a significant amount but I don't want to scare anyone that it is outlandish
There are a couple of firms that can handle cross-border clients (Blackmont, Pacfica, and Seabank capital). They typically are for high-rollers, so if your combined portfolio is less that $500K the fees may not be worth it.
From what I can tell, a typical fee for ...

checklist for leaving USA

I am a Canadian citizen on a TN visa for several years. A move back to Canada looks to be happening this spring/summer. I'm trying to sort out a checklist for leaving the US, with respect to taxes. I will contact an accountant, but for now I just want to understand the process. I understand form 104...

evaluating niche cross-border investment firms

I am contemplating a move from the US back to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen with a significant investment in both retirement and non-retirement accounts. From previous posts/answers, I have been investigating the niche players in cross-border investments. e.g. Pacifica Partners, Seabank Capital, a...

Ah, ok... I think I am starting to see the picture now. My terms may be a bit off, but in case this helps anyone.... As nelsona points out, there are niche investment firms which provide cross-border investment offerings. They use a "custodian" account / institution and let you have funds ...

cross-border investment companies?

I am a Canadian living in the US (TN Visa) with an IRA account and a 401k account. I posted before about how to move these assets if I move back to Canada. e.g. moving to an RRSP I appreciate the responses but some new information: my current mutual fund company (a large, well-known firm) requires U...

Thanks for the info, everyone...

Is my situation appropriate for a consultation? It seems so to me.

Btw, I was naive about the US address. I understand your reaction but I think of my career as a 'business' and was thinking in those terms. Certainly I didn't intend to imply a fraudulent endeavour.

repatriating to Canada

I am a Canadian working in the US on a TN Visa for several years, for several firms. I have substantial investments in mutual funds and an IRA. I'm considering returning to Canada, and very concerned about my current accounts. e.g. My mutual fund company said I could not buy-in without a US address....
