Can CA VPDI be claimed as foreign tax credit on CRA tax return?
Can we claim foreign tax credit on CRA tax returns for CA VPDI reported on a W2? In my understanding, CA VPDI or SDI was deducted from my payroll in form of CA tax. Any comment is appreciated.

So in this situation, what is the tax implication in Canada that I am a "deemed non-resident"?
Can you please elaborate more about simply filing a return for the year I left Canada with a departure date when I first left Canada to live in US? Does it mean I just need to file a return in CRA with ...

Hi Nelsona, thanks for the info. If that is the case, what should I do to show CRA that I am out of Canada for the whole years and not come back regularly and hence, deemed non-resident? What form(s) should I file to CRA to deem as non-resident? Please advise.

Hi Nelsona,
I am a little confused now.
1. Although I am still paying tax to CRA every year (which I suppose I am still considered as resident of Canada), I am US resident as I work and live in US for few years already. SO, how can I file 1040NR (which is for Nonresident alien)? Last time I filed ...

NRA Spouse and NRA Child
I am holding TN-1 working in US. I have a NRA spouse and a NRA child (currently live in Canada). Most of my wages go to my spouse and my child. So my question is:
- Can I claim my spouse's exemption?
- Can my child qualify as a dependent?
Thanks.

Didn't file TD F90 22-1 for previous years
I just came to realize that I have to file TD F90 22-1 on my foreign accounts that are more than $10k in total value. I will file it for 2009.
But if I didn't file it for any previous years, do I have to file amended TD F90 22-1 forms for previous years? Do I have to include a cover letter to ...

Nonresident alien spuose without ITIN/SSN
I am a US resident. I am married and my spouse is a nonresident alien (a Canadian citizen) who doesn't have a ITIN or SSN to file MFS or MFJ. Is it a problem if I just file as single? If it's, then how to file as MFS without spouse's ITIN? Obviously, it's too late to apply for a ITIN by April 15 ...

T3 slip IRS/CRA
I am a US resident in 2009 but I also need to file my income to CRA as my wife is working in Canada in 2009. I received a T3 slip showing capital gain (box 21) and other income (box 26). If I understand correctly, the income shown in this slip taxable in US. So, my question is if I pay tax to IRS ...
