The confusion remains. Can I use both 2555 and 1116 at the same time, 2555 to cover earned income and 1116 to cover unearned income? A US citizen living in Canada, who is also a Canadian citizen, has her own RRSP as well as a spousal RRSP created by her husband. The US tax treatment of her own RRSP is straightforward but what about the spousal RRSP - IRS staff I talked to were unable to advise on this.
