f2555 stamp in passport but didn't actually enter U.S.

I have a bit of an odd situation. Form 2555ez asks me to list the days present in the United States. We intended to fly to the US from Canada and passed through immigration, including receiving a stamp in my passport. We waited all day for 3 delayed planes and in the end they ran out of flights for ...

Transfer RRSP Form 8891 Question

Hi - Searched for an answer but didn't find one. I transferred my RRSP money from a RRSP savings account to a RRSP mutual fund (at different branches of the same bank). Do I need to fill out a 8891 form for both accts (with one showing $0) or just the one active at year end? Also is the withdrawl fr...

Thanks. And what about my real salary on those days? Is that considered US source income? The instructions in form 2555ez say that Income earned in the United States on business is not Foreign Earned Income. I assumed that meant it was US Source. Is this correct or is it also not reported (seems odd...

Well, I'm not really a contractor. I'm a full time employee who just happened to go on a business trip. As I am employed in Canada, they wouln't be issuing a W2 or 1099 to me, but rather a Canadian T4 (or are you saying the IRS would issue one of those forms to me? - Sorry if that is an ignorant que...

US Source income while on business in US (Meals, lodging)

I'm a Dual US/CAN citizen living in Canada. I went to the US for 2 days for a business trip. The way I read the instruction forms, it appears I am to include any reimbursements for meals and lodging as US source income (along with my 2 days of pay). Is this really true? It seems really odd to say th...

Thanks. But wouldn't he owe tax on what I give him since it's technically income to him?

Contributing to RESP opened by grandparent

I'm Dual US/CAN. My parents, wife and son are all Canadian only. I recently transferred my sons RESP out of my name into an account created by my dad. I tried contributing to it, but they say I need to be added as an official contributor. If I am added as a contributor then am I back in the same boa...

TD F 90-22.1 Exchange Rate

TD F 90-22.1 says if there's no quarterly statement, use the largest value in the account throughout the year. It also says to use the official exchange rate at the end of the year. If my largest value is on March 15th, 2008 then why would I use the exchange rate at the end of the year? Or do they m...

Send 2002?

I have never filed, so I am sending 2002-2008. I believe I do not have to send 2002, but in this year I took an HBP withdrawl and the 8833 form indicates if you don't specify you're taking a treaty position, you could be fined. I'd really like to NOT send in this year since my mutual fund refuses to...

Yes. I am actually sending 2002 to 2008, but only 2006-2008 needs an ITIN. I assume I should just send everything to keep it all together.

Inconsistant Instructions on where to send W-7 for ITIN

The instructions in W-7 indicate to send in this form with your tax return. On page 3, it says to Mail form W-7 and your tax return to the ITIN Operation address in Austin, Texas, but on the same page it says in a caution, "Do not use the mailing address in the instructions for your tax return....

I am quite happy to consider the current value minus the contributions as gain, but I thought it was required to figure out what is specifically interest, what is specifically cap gains and what is specifically fees. If the bank doesn't tell me what the mutual fund fees are then I am basically just ...
