Filing needs for RESP from grandparents

I'm hoping I can get some assistance on an RESP windup. I'm not sure what to do... My father in law circa 2005 opened an RESP in his name with my son as beneficiary. Since my son was living in the US the RESP govt grants were repaid as we were ineligible to use them as a USA resident. Over 2011-2012...

Tax Treaty info - deemed disposition tax after 10yrs nosale

Hi I was talking to a member at CRA yesterday about my deemed disposition and what happens after 10years since departure to the taxes if I had not sold the assets. The fellow was unaware of the 10year treaty and was saying I'd still owe taxes...so I'd like to know where could I find more detail abou...

Thanks. One can only hope the whole process will run on until after July of next year to sort through all the creditor claims. What an ordeal though.

Deemed disposition and share delisting due to bankruptcy

I'm a permanent resident with Nortel shares that had a large deemed disposition from 2000 when we moved to the USA. Nortel has declared bankruptcy and has recently delisted shares. They do not expect the shares to have any value after the process finishes. As I didn't sell the share, but they are be...

Deemed disposition at departure with subsequent value losses

When I moved to the US I elected to defer tax payment on assets deemed disposed at departure hoping they'd appreciate. Boy I was wrong...I still hold the assets which have lost most of their value such that selling them won't even pay the deemed taxes. Recently one of the mutual funds I had was woun...
