Thank you for that response. I am frustrated to learn that even as an incorporated contractor some companies will not allow you to work for them as such since CRA deems them to be employees and not contractors. In my opinion, I have my own tools, work my own schedule and provide a service with a ris...

Forming a corporation in Canada as a Dual citizen.

I am a dual citizen living in Canada. I recently formed my own corporation for contract work here in Canada. At this point in time I do not have any work in the States to speak of, so I have not incorporated in the USA. Im just curious what, if any, implications may arise from the IRS point of view ...

As a dual citizen, I'm looking at residing back in the US again while continuing my job for a cdn company just across the border. With the downturn in the US economy, housing is becoming much more affordable then homes just north of the border. We are currently leasing a home here in Canada for now ...

I plan on rolling my 401K into an IRA and then into an RRSP should I take employment in Canada. Does this need to be done before I return to reside in Canada? Also, when moving for the purpose of another job can moving expenses be claimed on my 2008 1040 US return. I am a dual citizen relocating to C...

I have a question whether or not I can write off travel and per diem expenses when I move to Canada and keep my job in the US. I am hoping to work part time in Canada while keeping my full time job in the US(until such time I can break off and go contract). I have heard that as an employee of the tr...

I'm not sure if this question fits here or not. I plan on moving to Canada and keeping my job in the US. As a dual citizen and Canadian resident I have some questions regarding travel expenses and per diem. It is my understanding that contractors can write off all expenses for travel,parking,hotels,...

Does anyone know if my credit score here in the US is transferable to Canada. We have accounts in Canada from the past but most of our recent credit history is down here.

So in that case it makes sense to transfer my 401K to an IRA after termination with this US company.
How does one manage an IRA while residing in Canada? I'll do some reading up on this to while waiting for a reply.
Thanks

You are absolutely correct,Nelson. My employer just informed me that unless I'm terminated for employment I can not transfer my 401K to an IRA. Since I plan on remaining with this company indefinetly I'll just leave it as a 401k there for now. If I live in Canada as a dual and still have a 401K with...

Ok so can I switch my 401K to an IRA?
Given the info these threads are providing I am not in favor of surrendering my GC -especailly if my job as a pilot(and licenses) are compatible for both countries.

I have not heard of this penalization for surrendering a GC,please explain. On another thread it was mentioned how the benefits of being a dual citizen and working as an independent contractor for a US company can be beneficial. That and the benefits of US SS appeal to me. So far so good with keepin...

Thanks,Nelson. Some people say I should just move back to Canada, forget the USC idea and take a similar job in Canada. Then should I ever want to move back to the US or take a job as an independent contractor reapply for a GC through my wife who is a USC. What if I only work a small amount of time i...
