Thank you for your suggestions.
For my case, it seems that filing as MFS with exemption for spouse gives even better result. So filing in this way is my choice for this year. However, I was surprised to be told by turbotax that my Federal return couldn't be e-filed because of the exemption.

MFJ->MFS

I work in US with US income only and spouse works in Canada with income from Canada only. With the help of nelsona and other folks, I completed my filing as MFJ last year (with 2555 exclusion). I thought to file the same way as MFJ this year but found out by running the software that tax would be ...

I submitted my cdn tax return last Apr. and didn't receive the notice until Aug.
However, CRA credited me a few dollars as refund interest.

Again, many thanks Nelsona!

The reason that I included moving expense was that I thought that I still need to file a NORMAL 2006 return (i.e. report all my world income to CRA) and just indicate my departure date as Jan 2006 on the return. (And in the hope that CRA won't tax my US income once they ...

Thanks Nelsona for your clear explanation!!! (why bye until May?)

I rarely went back to Canada (2-3 times) since I left in Jan.
After I move to US last year, I immediately infomed CRA of my departure and the changing of my address . So the assessment of notice for 2005 was mailed to new address in ...

Determine residency status by income, how to?

Just read a statement from CRA website regarding emigrant:

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4056/t4056-e.html#P69_2962

..........
If you are the spouse or common-law partner of a deemed resident and you left Canada in 2006, you may be considered an emigrant unless, under an agreement or ...

RRSP, buy or not?

Hi all:

I have worked in US with TN visa since Feb 2006 and the whole 2006 income of myself was from us sources. My wife still lives in Ontario and has a job there. I have kept my Canada TD bank account and its credit account.

I noticed from Notice of Assessment that my 2006 RRSP deduction limit ...
