I can't believe it's that simple ! I should have done this earlier. I guess it's not too late for me to do this, right ? Does it have to be an independent Canadian broker, or can it be done with a bank in their brokerage branch? Last question (I promise!), since I have a margin loan on this account,...

I have a follow up question... or concern, I should say. (sorry for the long story) When I moved back to Canada in 2006, I tried to change my Schwab address to my new Canadian address. That's when I learned that I could not do that and I was told by Schwab that I had to close my account. I really di...

Thanks for the quick reply Nelsona ! Like I said, I moved back to Canada in 2006 (after 9 years in the US). I believe (based on previous information you gave me a long time ago) that the base price for my stocks is equals to the price on the day I entered Canada again (in 2006). Can you refresh my m...

Sale of stock in US - living in Canada
In 2009 I sold some stock I am holding is a US account (Schwabs). No US taxes were withheld on this sale. Now I live in Canada (since 2006). I am planning to include this sale to my Canadian tax return, but do I have to file in the US as well, even if no taxes were withheld? Thanks.

Canadian citizen & resident... but worked in US 3 months
I am a Canadian citizen and a full time resident. Last year (2008) I worked for 3 months in the US (that was my only income for 2008). I was a regular paid employee with tax deductions on my paycheck.
Will I have to pay Canadian taxes on top of what I already paid in the US ?

What should I do with my US stock ?
2 years ago I moved back to Canada (after 9 years in Calif.). When I got my new Canadian address I called up Schwabs in the US to change my address. They said they couldn't change it for an international address and I had to close my account (sell my stock). I didn't want to sell, so they offered me...

No I did not !!! My situation is getting a little tricky here and I need more advice. I moved back to Canada last year in July. I still have my GC. I am working for a Canadian company here in Quebec and they are sending me to the US to work for them for a week. What will happen at the border ? Is my...

I was told to go to the border to surrender my green card. But is it possible to do it at a local consulate office (Quebec City) ?

I don't think I can qualify for the PPT either because I moved back to Canada in July and this is less than 330 days in a foreign country. Am I missing something here ? I recall that you mentioned in several earlier posts that on the return year it is more advantageous to file a full year 1040 with ...
