No. PA follows what is on your IRS tax return, other than specific additions exclusions that they might have. Those additions and exclusions. if any would be clearly spelled out in that tax guide.

Re: Home sale by a Canadian moving to USA with GC through my spouse
CRA does not accept that a property you rent out can be your principle residence (PR) for that time. They would accept, say, a cottage that was not your main home but was not rented out as a PR, but not a rental property. Moreover, the treaty provision that allows one to bump up your cost basis MUST...

Re: Home sale by a Canadian moving to USA with GC through my spouse
I assume both you and your father live in the house now? You will not be liable for any tax in US when you move, as the treaty allows Cdns moving to US to use the value of their home at the time they leave as the cost basis, so there is no worries there. If you need to report it (you probably wouldn...

Re: Foreign Tax witheld on Cdn stock in an IRA
Were you being withheld at your old firm?
Indeed, CDn stocks held in an IRA should not be subject to CDn withholding by Article XXI(2), since IRAs are by definition exempt retirement accounts.
It would seem that this firm has not informed CRA that the account is an IRA.

Re: Tax Penalty Seems Wrong
It sounds like the payment that was sent was not credited to the account. However, realize not having enough withheld throughout the year does incur a penalty for under estimating there tax obligation. That would happen even if they paid their final tax bill in time in April. So the $395 looks like ...

Re: US Medicare Part A for Canadians
It has nothing to do with any international agreement. Google "Medicare Part A for non-residents", there is plenty of information out there.
Part B has a residency requirement.

Re: Foreign earned income and amounts received after the US entry
Anna, you won't be "audited". IRS does not notify you if your return is accepted: the simply cash your cheque (if you owe), or issue your refund (if you are owed). There is no notice of assessment issued like in Canada. In your case, since certain actions need to be taken by IRS on the bas...

Re: US Medicare Part A for Canadians
You are eligible for Part A at 65. No question.
However, because you requesting SS at age 65 (or younger), the Part A is not triggered automatically: you need to submit a form requesting it.
Be aware however that Medicare Part A does not cover anything outside US.
