Re: Young Adult, Dual Tax Filing

Yes, we'll reconcile with Uncle Sam separately. But my main question is what investments can she make, in which accounts, for the best tax deferred growth? The TFSA growth is not recognized by IRS as deferred income. Which basically leaves her with contributing to a company RPP, and her RRSP. Toront...

Young Adult, Dual Tax Filing

My dual citizen daughter went to university in Canada and elected to remain a resident there. She’s filed taxes in Canada for five years but not in the US. I know, I know, she’ll start US filing in 2023. (I didn’t think it was necessary given that her CDN taxes were higher than the foreign tax credi...

Re: RRSP/TFSA/RESP related filing requiremnts for Canadian citizens in USA

I’m a dual citizen and US resident. Been filing US taxes only for past 20+ years. My accountant used to report my RRSP holdings (ETF’s) and contribution cost base. Re: Pension Annuity vs Lump Sum Tax

Thanks so much. Yes, I meant the LIRA unlocking would incur a 25% tax withholding. Not the transfer from pension funds into the LIRA. Since I’m now retired, it’s a good point about the runway required to earn back that hit. Initially I was indifferent to the lump sum vs annuity decision. But I think...

Pension Annuity vs Lump Sum Tax

Hi Nelson A quick question I hope. I'm a dual citizen CAN/US and US resident for many years. Planning to remain in USA in retirement. About to take a DB pension from previous CDN employer. I have about two weeks to decide. Looking over the site, I understand the tax treatment of CPP, OAS, SS and RRS...
