Re: Canada tax Return as a resident + non-resident (leaving Canada)
Thank you, Nelsona! Could you confirm: even if I filed as part-year resident in canada, can I file as a full-year tax resident of the US? Or does the part-year Canadian tax residency limit me to the dual status in the US? For the foreign tax credit in Canada i only reported the tax paid in the US, f...

Re: Canada tax Return as a resident + non-resident (leaving Canada)

The Jan-April US income has been reported to CRA as a part-year resident return. 1) For the US return- am I a part-year tax resident o...

Can child support be claimed under section 216?
Sec 216 form, Line 21999, 22000- can I claim child support as "support payments made"?
The child in question left Canada and now resides with the other parent in Europe. I paid child support to the other parent. Got receipts. And there isa court order.

Non-resident tax for rent and NR4/NR6 form submission
Good evening, As a Canadian non-resident, I am supposed to pay the 25% of gross income tax for rent. Would appreciate if someone can clarify the steps. I understand that someone living in Canada should be transferring the payment each month on my behalf. 1) Can they just transfer the amount owed, or...

Re: Canada tax Return as a resident + non-resident (leaving Canada)

But- for may-dec 2022 to file a non-resident tax return and ask for one-time forgiveness. Does it sound right? Which return do I use? Turbotax has a non-resident, se...

Re: Canada tax Return as a resident + non-resident (leaving Canada)
For (2), I do understand itsa different process. Unfortunately, I did not inform the CRA regarding the departure last year As a result, did not remit the 25% of the may- dec rental income. I only became aware just recently, when figuring out how to file the taxes. What would be the easiest (and chea...
