Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
Yikes, I received a large chunk of cash deposited into my account from the SSA today, I assume this is the WEP amount from 2024. Hard to to believe after all this, it's actually happening. The info I have is that the official mailing will be a few weeks later.

Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
Yes, this seems to be moving along. I received a "Good News from the Social Security ..." email today indicating they may owe me additional benefits, etc. :-) Not much too specific but they said they are starting the complete process for 3 million will be in several stages starting end of ...

Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
I've been hearing that a least some people have already received SSA letters indicating they will see a HR82 increase in May (not I yet sadly). I saw a YouTube update on this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBy2icDsR3A, we'll see, apparently the SSA is at their lowest staffing ever with the highest...

Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
I recall when I spoke with the SSA agent originally when he applied WEP to my SS, he said that my wife's would also be reduced because she was to claim 50% of my now WEP reduced FRA amount. However, I'm not sure if that was indeed the case implemented. Has anyone had this same case?

Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
There is WEP & GPO facebook page where they post regular updates, latest says the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has announced that H.R. 82 will be signed on January 6. According to this post, it indicates he has until Jan 8: https://federalnewsnetwork.com/explainers/2024/12/how-much-time-does-...

Re: WEP elimination HR82 impact on Canadians in USA
Well, I'll admit I was not really expecting this to get as far as it has, although I did sign the various petitions and emailed my Senators urging their support. The latest I've heard it has just been sent to POTUS for signing. My QPP was cut back by 76% due to WEP, I filed a 'Request for Reconsider...

Re: WEP 75% Reduction
A little update on this case. I filed an online "Request for Reconsideration SSA-561" on April 5, I have called about a dozen times but I still have not received an official written response. Someone in my local office said it can take 6 or more months these days. If this request is denied...

Re: WEP 75% Reduction
Thanks for the reply. I'm 69 and dealing with a representative in Auburn Washington. He was pretty easy to deal with and ran the numbers multiple times with the same result. I also ran the numbers with the downloadable SSA calculator (anypia) and got exact same result as he did. So if it's incorrect...
