Re: Form 2555 foreign earned income

I lived in Canada for 15 years before I moved to the US so I qualify as a bona fide resident. However, in 2018 I only lived in Canada for 15 days. I moved to the US on January 15. If my understanding is correct, the amount of foreign income can be excluded is determined by the proportion of uninterr...

Should I report severance income on form 1040 or exclude it from 1040 then explain it on form 8833?

Re: Form 2555 foreign earned income

Thank you nelsona! I have difficulty with the qualifying period. I worked 15 days before I went down to the US. What is the number should I put on line 31? If 15, then only 15/365=4% of the $ 103,900 (maximum foreign earned income exclusion), which is $4156. If I received a lot more income than $415...

Form 2555 foreign earned income

Hello,
Should the foreign earned income report on line 19 the net income (after deduction of tax already paid, RRSP contribution, EI premiums, union due, Cpp contribution etc) of Canadian source?

Can anyone please explain the housing exclusion?

Thanks!

US Resident alien what forms do I need to fill besides 1040

Hello,
For 2018 tax year, I have a little bit salary from Canadian employer (tax withheld) and rental income. For US tax, what forms do I need to fill besides f1040, f1116 or f8833?

Thank you very much!

Re: Tax on RRSP contribution

"The severance is really pension income by IRS, and by rolling into an RRSP, it is not taxable in Canada, and thus not in US."

I signed an agreement with my previous Canadian employer to put this severance payment to RRSP. Will it work to submit this agreement to IRS?

Tax on RRSP contribution

Hello,
I received severance pay after I left Canada for my new job in the U.S. As an agreement with my previous employer, I put all the payment into RRSP so I was not taxed on this income in Canada. I will be taxed by IRS for this Canadian income, right?

Thanks!
