Re: Case Studies: Social Security, WEP, and CPP
Update: see link below, there is still one final vote left on the bill to repeal WEP, and this vote will take place in the senate today (Dec 20). If it passes, then the bill will go to Biden's desk. https://www.ncpssm.org/documents/latest-news/wep-gpo-are-one-step-closer-to-repeal/ From what I read,...

Re: Case Studies: Social Security, WEP, and CPP
FYI, from what I understand, as of today December 19 2024, both the US congress and senate have approved a Bill that repeals WEP/GPO. The bill has to go to some procedural reviews on December 20 2024, and then would be sent to Biden for signature on the same day. This Bill would benefit americans th...

Re: US Medicare Part A for Canadians

Does my qualifying for free Medicare Part A as a US non-citizen and US non-resident (with 40 quarters of work in the US) a result of the US-Canada Social Security Agreement ? or does this apply to any other nationality other than Canadians ? I would like to be able to provi...

Re: US Medicare Part A for Canadians
Hi, I am a Canadian citizen, approaching the age of 65; I am a non-US-citizen and a non-US-resident, and have lived outside the US for many years. I have enough credits from 10 years of work in the US in the past to qualify for US Social Security, but do not plan to apply for Social Security until a...

Re: US-situs assets for US Estate Taxes for foreigners
Thank you for the information. For item (2), would US Corporate Bonds held in a foreign brokerage account, and which are tax exempt in the interest generated to a non-US person be considered US-situs ? The information from the IRS mentions that Corporate Bonds which are tax exempt to non-US persons ...

US-situs assets for US Estate Taxes for foreigners
Hi, I have read several documents from the IRS about what is deemed a US-situs asset for US Estate Tax purposes for non-citizen and non-residents of the US. However there are 3 classes of assets that are not referenced anywhere and I would greatly appreciate if you could share your views on whether ...
